Oxford: The Third Field Trip

The University of Oxford consists of 38 independent, self-governing colleges, each on having its own buildings, faculty, and several hundred students. The oldest of the colleges go back to the 1100's. Most of the colleges are in the same part of the city, making it easy to get around to see many of them.
The Hall (dining facility) of Christ Church College, the largest and most famous of the colleges. Harry Potter fans recognize this place? Lewis Caroll, who wrote Alice in Wonderland, was a mathematics professor here.

Punting on the Cherwell or Thames is a local activity. You stand in the boat and use a long pole to propel it.

The Eagle and Child Pub is where Tolkien, C. S. Lewis and other writers used to meet. Still a nice place for lunch.

Oxford students dress for ceremonies, exam taking, etc. Common sight during Michelmas, Hilary, and Trinity Terms, the three academic sessions of the school year.
